When we first looked at the Woodford Rest property last February, it was clear that it would need a lot of superficial love. However, when we pulled into the parking lot, my mind started transforming all of the buildings into what I thought they should be. We almost didn't buy the property due to the amount of work, but we ended up accepting the challenge. The last few weeks have been a lot of fun in some ways. I'm starting to see some of my visions become reality! The exterior painting is done!!!! Plus, we are getting the new doors installed! There will be more photos once all of the doors are installed, but here is a preview with our front door.

I didn't realize just how drafty our old doors were until the new ones were installed. We live on a very busy road with semi trucks and cars wizzing by day and night. This will be great for business one day, but not so enjoyable when you are watching tv, etc. As soon as our two front doors were installed, the temperature was more stable and the noise level was significantly reduced. I'm really excited to see the new doors in the motel rooms. I think it's going to make a world of difference for our guests.
We've also been working on the mother-in-law suite off and on for the last several months. As many of you will remember, we had friends and family staying with us for most of October. They were able to use this area and feel as though they had their own space without interfering in ours. The suite includes a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. We have tackled everything except the bathroom so far. Hoping to get the bathroom done before the first of the year. I'm really excited for that transformation since it's a little more daring than I have done before. Stay tuned!

It really is amazing to see the new life you can breathe into an old building by making a few relatively small changes. A coat of paint and some new cabinet handles can make all the difference in the appearance of things. I kind of feel like that is how my life has gone in the last year. With the move and some personal growth choices I have made, my oldish body and mind have made a remarkably positive change. I never thought that this would be the life I was meant to live, but I am loving it so far. Sure, I'm scared out of my mind half the time wondering what I have gotten us into, but you have to take risks if you want to do anything with your life:)

During this week of Thanksgiving, it's easy to get carried away with preparations and hustle. At my parent's house, Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday. We never did anything exciting, but my parents took the rare opportunity to devote their time 100% to family time. There was usually a computer game, good food, and lots of laughter. I miss those times more than almost anything, but I am so thankful for my little family and the precious memories of my parents. Love the people you choose to love and never let them go. From our family to yours, have a Happy Thanksgiving and don't forget to rest:)
