Our Journey to Rest

Many of you already know our story, but for those of you that are just now joining us, I will give you the abbreviated version. My husband, Matthew, and I bought a property in Woodford, Vermont in the Spring of 2023. The property consists of a single family home with two mother-in-law suits, a motel building, and two cottages. We are located in the Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forest which is just outside of the town of Bennington. While the setting is beautiful, the buildings are a little worse for wear. We decided to take on the mammoth task of rehabbing the buildings and opening the motel for business sometime in 2024 with the two cottages serving as long-term rentals for steady income.
With the passing of my Dad last August, this left us in a unique position of having the ability to find a new life for ourselves. We both grew up in the Pacific Northwest and had become disenchanted with the crowds of people and the fast paced lifestyle that neither of us wanted. The heat and wildfires were also a huge factor in our decision to move. We wanted to find a community that was accepting of others and chose more of a "live and let live" lifestyle while being surrounded by nature.
Like many people, Matthew and I have had a fair amount of stress in our lives and we made the conscious decision to find a way of life that worked for us and our desire to live peaceful lives. My Mom was killed in a car accident when I was twenty-three and my Dad developed several debilitating strokes in 2022 which he finally succumbed to after several months. Since I am an only child, Matthew and I had to put our lives on hold to care for my Dad in all aspects of life. Once he passed, we both felt that it was time to do something for us and find a life that better suited our needs. We knew this would be a difficult road in the beginning, but we are hoping it will pay off over time.
If you would like to participate in our journey, please follow our blog and Facebook page. We will be attempting to do one blog post per week about our challenges and successes. Hopefully, you will see us meet our goal and share in our success story :)

Hi Guys! This is the first time I've followed a blog. Are you going to post pictures of your adventure so far? (Did you take any snaps of your journey driving cross country with the dogs?) So far, the pictures on this site are beautiful and I look forward to following you. . . .jh
